EcoVadis awards First Climate a silver medal for corporate sustainability performance
First Climate earned a silver scorecard for its high level of corporate ESG commitment by the renowned environmental ratings platform, EcoVadis. In its debut listing, First Climate ranked in the top twenty-five percent of businesses reviewed on corporate sustainability. Within the four main assessment themes, the company received high marks across the board.
By participating in EcoVadis’ sustainability audit, First Climate initiated a rigorous evaluation process to determine its standing amongst more than 100,000 enterprises worldwide – with the help of the sophisticated AI technology that EcoVadis uses as part of its standard review process. The company was reviewed against a host of similarly sized commercial peers operating throughout Germany. The assessment model includes measurements for seven management indicators across 21 sustainability criteria and focuses on four main assessment areas: “environment,” “ethics,” “labor & human rights,” and “sustainable procurement.” Of these, First Climate scored particularly well in two areas: labor & human rights and environment.
Top ratings for environment, labor & human rights
In its two top ranking categories, First Climate scored high concerning environment, which is evidenced by the company’s utilization of renewable energy for its power generation, integration of sustainable products and consumer goods, even for everyday items like cleaning supplies and glass-bottled drinking water for employees. Additionally, staff are encouraged and regularly reminded to separate trash, reduce office electricity, and use public transportation – all examples of how incremental changes help reduce its corporate carbon footprint. To that end, in 2021 a comprehensive carbon footprint calculation, encompassing Scopes 1, 2 and 3, was conducted and the unavoidable carbon emissions were 100% compensated through high- quality climate protection projects. Regarding labor & human rights, EcoVadis also recognized the company’s positive work culture in the overall high scoring.
